Codnor Castle has a very rich history and the castle site dates back to the 11th century. The senior members of this powerful and very influential family were seated here at Codnor castle.

Codnor Miners Football Club is a newly formed club in 2009 and has strong ties with The Miners Arms on Mill Lane in Codnor. The team is playing in The East Midlands Senior League for the second successive Season and has now started a Sunday side playing in the Alfreton Sunday League - Division 2.
